Khrystia Alchevska completed her higher education in Paris before returning to teach French at Kharkiv Women’s Gymnasium. A rebellious educator, Khrystia defied prohibitions by reading Ukrainian books to her students as well as actively organized and led student protests and strikes, fostering ties with the underground resistance. Believing that only the youth could transform the state, she devoted herself to their education.

Alchevska was deeply inspired by her mentor and close friend Olha Kobylianska, with whom she shared a strong creative bond. Her words proved prophetic, and today, she remains an indelible figure in the history of Ukrainian literature and poetry.
